Since 1996, King’s Daughters Hospital (KDH) in Madison, Indiana, supported the Creating Positive Relationships curriculum and maintained it in the local middle schools and surrounding areas. It was well received by educators and the community. However, in 2011, KDH made a financial decision not to support the program any longer. Since Choices for Women of Jefferson County (IN) was already a contributor to this program, they felt compelled to ensure its existence. They supported the program with a few faithful volunteers who kept it going at least in a few of the local schools.
Sharyn Hobbs, Executive Director of CFWJC, saw a vision to sponsor the prevention effort and encompass the counties in the southeastern part of the state. She approached her Board of Directors about this opportunity in March 2012 and they voted to create a position for a director for this initiative. They hired Shari McCutcheon in April 2012. Shari had served as Client Services Director at Choices for Women in New Albany since 2005.
Choices for Women of Jefferson County (now doing business as Life Choices Clinic) made the decision to separate the scope of services to better serve both entities because of the growth of both organizations. Pure Education Initiative, Inc., doing business as Pure Initiative, became its own 501C3 (not for profit) February, 2015. We now partner with pregnancy resource centers like Choices for Women and other community organizations that promote sexual risk avoidance.
Pure Initiative’s vision is to transform communities by creating a culture that embraces sexual integrity and respect for life. We do this in each community by engaging volunteers and resources in those communities. In this way, the communities are investing in their youth and embracing the mission and vision of Pure.
It is our mission to equip people to choose healthy relationships for a hopeful future and healthier families and communities.
